Your Excellency:-
have the honour to acknowledge the re-
ceipt of your note of the 11th instant acquainting
me of the measures taken by the Government of Hong-
kong for the prevention of the export of arms and
munitions of war into China, which formed the subject
of my note of May 23rd last.
The measures are comprehensive, and well
thought out, and it is sincerely hoped they will
lead to such good results as expected.
I also take special note of the measure,
enumerated (c), namely, "Export to Macao has been
temporarily suspended", the adoption of which may in-
volve some inconvenience to the British mercantile
community in that Colony.
I have already telegraphed the gist of
